This Upper Arlington backyard combines a custom paver patio, gas fire feature, retaining walls, drainage work and landscaping into a space designed for everyday use and future flexibility.
The patio was built with Unilock Beacon Hill pavers and a Holland Premier soldier course, with Brussels Dimensional Stone used for the step, sub-wall, retaining walls and fire feature.
The project also included drainage improvements and a concrete pad positioned for a future hot tub, allowing the homeowners to enjoy the space now without limiting what the backyard can become later.
Thoughtful Planning Below the Surface
Some of the most important work in this backyard is the work you don't immediately notice. The retaining-wall system includes drainage gravel and perforated pipe to help manage water appropriately behind the wall.
Drainage improvements were considered alongside the patio construction, and a concrete pad was incorporated for a future hot tub so the homeowners won't need to undo finished work when they're ready for the next phase.
Refreshed landscape beds soften the masonry and help the new hardscape feel connected to the surrounding yard.
